The auctions of June, before the summer break

We started with Goya, where the so-called “Spanish private collection” went out for auction, from which no more data was transmitted but which generated an undeniable curiosity and expectation. We must focus our attention away from the most striking pieces, as they did not find a buyer, and focus on two pieces in particular. The first, Santa Catalina’s Desposorios, was a piece that went to auction as a Spanish School of the seventeenth century, an oil on canvas, for € 3,000. Typical piece that ends up lost in the immensity of a catalog, but not on this occasion, it ended up topped at € 23,000. The second cover was another work of Spanish School, this time of the 16th century, entitled Piedad. It left for only € 500, in a clear example of a failure in cataloging. It was finally awarded for € 12,000. We ended up seeing Rosas, one of the outstanding works of the previous ones, by Leiv Tchistovsky. It was sold online, through Invaluable, to a foreign collector for € 12,000.

We go now to Alcalá, a room where a Julio Romero de Torres was auctioned for € 60,000. It had been a long time since we saw a good auction of this artist. He was accompanied by disappointment at the few sales of outstanding pieces, as well as the already predictable desert Juan de Juni after the declaration of inexportability. Yes, Cabo de San Antonio, Jávea, by Joaquín Sorolla, was sold for € 30,000.

As for Ansorena, we see Antonio Saura’s Portrait, which went up to € 55,000 from its sale price of € 40,000. We also see the auctions of Antoni Clavé: Nature morte au poisson for € 15,000 and Roi for € 16,000.

As for the early 20th century, we see a Pont au change by Maximilien Luce that came out for € 18,000 and was awarded € 34,000. He is accompanied by Portrait of a Lady by Juan Gris, which sold for € 15,000, and Peter van Lint’s Flight to Egypt, which was auctioned at € 14,000.

We now go to Retiro, where we saw the curious sale of a Bullfighting by Juan Barjola, for € 35,000, after almost two years without seeing a sale of one of them. He was accompanied by the sale of a Rafael Canogar, Untitled, for € 17,000; and that of Antoni Clavé, Nappe et points de couleur, for € 16,000.

From Godofredo Ortega Muñoz came two works from the collection of Ramón Solís, such as Campos de Encinas and Castaños. They were sold, each, for € 16,000. Finally, we highlight Paravent, by Marc Chagall, who won € 12,000.
